United Arab Emirates (UAE)

With the new Maritime Law, the UAE has introduced and modernised vessel regulations in the hopes of attracting more foreign investments. Besides the ease of registration, one key change is that vessels must now be no more than 20 years old from the date of completion under their shipbuilding contract. Another update involves bareboat chartering, which allows a ship to be leased without crew or provisions, giving charterers full control while adhering to local regulations and operational requirements. Additionally, foreign-owned vessels can now gain UAE nationality under specific agreements, enabling them to operate more freely within the country.

Nonetheless, the UAE boasts well-established marinas, particularly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Most marinas can accommodate yachts ranging from 20 to 100 meters, while superyachts over 100 meters are also a common sight, especially in Dubai’s high-end yachting scene. For those seeking a more traditional experience, dhows are also available for charter.

Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has a growing maritime sector, and with the opening of new luxury marinas across the Red Sea and Persian Gulf, new regulations have been set. Foreign-flagged yachts are allowed to cruise Saudi Arabia’s waters with a tourism charter permit. The majority of yachts, usually motor yachts, cruisers, or catamarans, range from 30 to 80 meters. However, some of the newly developed marinas are equipped to accommodate superyachts of up to 150 meters.

Other Countries

In Oman, Bahrain, and Qatar, all vessels must be registered, and foreign yachts require a special cruising permit. Most yachts are 15 to 60 meters in length, including catamarans, luxurious motor yachts, and traditional dhows.
